General Motors have finally launched the BSIV version of its flagship MPV Tavera in the Indian market. This MPV was carrying the passenger only in BSIII compliant in the cities until now. Chevrolet India secures a major position in the growing Indian car market and has lured the Indian buyers with the eight models that it has launched in the country beginning from 2003. At present there are 3 hatchbacks, 3 sedans, one SUV and one MPV. One among these is the Chevrolet Tavera, this car was first launched in the Indian market in 2003, it got its first upgrade in 2008 and was called as the Chevrolet Tavera Neo 2. Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 in the 3 generation Tavera launched in 2012, however it is evident that the all the models since its launch are mere facelifts of its predecessors. This new MPV is based on the Isuzu platform which was a diesel powered MPV sold in Indonesia.The front looks of the car are very much similar to the Isuzu Trooper. The oblong headlamps, grille and the bumper are attractive. Under the skin, it follows the traditional MPV body-on-ladder-frame construction with a tube-type chassis, and the tried-and-trusted suspension layout of a torsion bar in front and leaf springs at the rear. As far as comparison is considered within the first 100 m, one can realize that the ride and handling of Tavera is a cut above either the Scorpio or phased out Qualis. Some also say that Tavera is an easy vehicle to drive, maybe easier than some of the more established cars around, thanks to the tall driving position, excellent visibility and near perfect geometry Space. Practicality is where the Tavera shines: it is very roomy, with lots of legroom and width there is ample of space for the passengers in the MPV. This 9 seater is powered by a 2.0 L 4 cylinder TCDI diesel engine which generates a power of 105 .3bhp and a torque of 263.7Nm. The mileage delivered by this car is around 11 kmpl . The standard features in the MUV are Air Conditioner, CD PLayer, Power steering, power windows and central locking.

Exterior

Exterior of the car is the area which comes next after the engine where this car has got major changes. It has been crafted beautifully and the GM engineers had put in lot of efforts to make this car a total eye catcher. In the front there are freshly designed headlamps which encloses between them the dual port grille divided into 2 by a big chevrolet emblem. The headlamps have been given a curvy-rectangular look and are integrated with clear lens and turn indicators for better visibility. The front bumper enclosed the for lamps with chrome rings around them to make it look more attractive. At the rear end there are stretched tail lamps with turn indicators and big Chevrolet crest in the middle. The side profile of the car is also quite attractive, chrome door handles along with the front and rear chrome packages cajoles buyers.The exterior dimensions of the car are 4435mm x1680mm x 1765 mm ( length x width x height). It has ground clearance of 184mm and a wheelbase of 2685 mm.

Interior

This third generation Tavera interior is in dual tone with the beige colour giving a luxurious appeal all over. The dual cockpit design adorned with the dashboard is accompanied with brand new instrumentation console and a fresh and smooth steering wheel. The powerful air conditioning system with well-spread AC vents further makes it easy for the driver and passengers to be cool even in the hot summers. The seats are comfortable and the high quality fabric upholstery make the interiors go a notch higher in value. In the infotainment section the car has in it 1 Din audio system with Aux-In which gives an awesome music experience to the passengers . The music is translated through 4 speakers and 2 tweeters. The interior dimension of the car are good enough that provides enough legroom, shoulder room and headroom both for the front and the rear passengers.

Engine and Performance

The car under its hood carries a TCDI diesel engine that provides a displacement of 1994cc and has 4 cylinders with 2 valves per cylinder . The engine generates a power of 105.3bhp at the rate of 4000 rpm and a torque of 263.7Nm at the rate of 2500 rpm. The engine is also affixes with a turbocharger which is used to increase the engines power output by increasing the mass of air and fuel entering the engine. The mileage delivered by the car is 9.1kmpl in the city driving conditions and 12.2kmpl on the highways . The engine is complied with the BS IV emission norm and has a catalytic converter for emission control. The power generated by the engine can accelerate the car from 0-100 kmph in 22.3 seconds and touch a top speed of 138 kmph .

Braking and Handling

for effective braking the car has in it ventilated disc brakes in the front while there are drum brakes at the rear. For handling there is power steering wheel with telescopic steering column recirculating ball steering gear. This provides a turn radius of 5.62 meters. It also has a 5 speed manual gearbox that readily falls into hand . Synchronized gears with the Single plate diaphragm clutch allows you a very easy and comfortable driving.

Safety Features

As this is a mid range model so it does not have any advanced safety features but in incorporates standard features like Central locking, child safety locks, passenger side rear view mirror, rear seat belts, adjustable key and centrally mounted fuel tank. It also has features like keyless entry which allows you to lock and unlock your vehicle doors and trunk without using the key and halogen headlamps which uses the gas discharge principle to facilitate driving in extreme weather conditions.

Comfort Features

Space is the most important feature of the Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 LT 9 seats. The standard comfort features in the car are power steering which facilitates your drive in any kind of terrain and provides a low turn radius, it has front rear power windows to open or close the window with a single touch of the button, remote fuel opener, low fuel warning light, accessory power outlet, vanity mirror, rear reading lamp, rear seat headrest and front cup holder . It also has a Air Conditioner with rear AC vents for effective cooling.
