Maruti India recently launched the all new Wagon R in six different variants and is all set to take the design, technology, safety and comfort features to the next level. The new Wagon R has vigorous exteriors with notable interiors. Classy exterior features with curvier body of the car make it remarkable and appealing. Maruti Wagon R VXI with ABS model has impressive interior with dual tone finishing. The instrumentation panel in chrome finish with the silver accentuated door handles makes the look more exquisite. The dual tone upholstery matches perfectly with the interior design and add to the beauty. The car is powered by a 12 valve KB10 series petrol engine which comes with a displacement of 998cc . This Aluminum light weight 3 cylinder engine produces a maximum of 67bhp at the rate of 6200rpm and peak torque of 90Nm at the rate of 3500rpm. This is good enough to provide a decent acceleration and pick up. The engine comes mated with a 5 speed manual transmission to improve the performance. This five seater model is very much fuel efficient and incorporates standard features like Air Conditioner, CD player, ABS, Power steering, Power windows and central locking.

Exterior

The all new Maruti Wagon R has a very stylish and refined look. In the front the car has a chrome accentuated grille between the blue tinted headlights to make the look of the car more stunning. The upper grille of the car has Suzuki emblem at the centre while the lower grille has the fog lamps. It is packed with moon rock silver roof rails and stylish tail gate. The side profile of the car is very blend looking and makes it look a bit taller. The alloy wheels with new wheel arches and the curvier bonnet add to the beauty of the side. The exterior dimensions of the car are; length – 3595mm, width – 1495mm and height – 1475mm. the wheel base of the car is 2400mm with a ground clearance of 162mm which is pretty good .

Interior

The hatchback has dynamic interiors and offers and irresistible look. The dash in the dual tone color is much better than the average Maruti dash. The seat upholstery is in blue – black color to give a nice look, the lumbar and thigh support are average both in front and rear. Chrome finish instrumentation panel with the door handles in the silver gives a royal and supreme touch to the car. The molded roof lining and the needle punch floor carpet give it a very stylish and impressive look. The interior features of the car include Air conditioner, Adjustable steering column , Tachometer, Glove compartment, outside temperatures display, cigarette lighter and digital odometer.

Engine and performance

The car under its hood carries a 12 valve KB 10 petrol engine which comes with a displacement of 998cc . This aluminum light weight engine has 3 cylinders and 4 valves per cylinder . It is capable of generating a maximum of 67bhp at 6200rpm and a peak torque of 90Nm at 3500rpm. The new KB series is exactly the same engine which powers the Maruti Suzuki A-star; it is produced at the company's Gurgaon facility. The new WagonR is based on a completely new platform and it has a new manual transmission system. According to Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) standards, the car will give a mileage of 18.6 km per liter on highway and 14kmpl in the city. The fuel tank capacity of the car is 35 liters, so that you can cover an average distance of 535km once full tank. The power and the torque generated by the car can readily accelerate it from 0-100kmph in 15.9 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 148kmph. The engine has BS IV emission norm which is the Bharat Stage Emission standard IV instituted by the government of India to keep control over the pollution caused by the internal combustion engine.

Braking and Handling

The Maruti Wagon R has very sound and dynamic brake mechanism. In the front the car has large ventilated disc brakes while at the rear there are drum brakes. To further enhance the braking system the car has in it ABS technology; it allows the wheels to interact tractively with the roads and avoid any skidding. The suspension system is also good; in the front there is McPherson strut with coil springs while in the rear there is isolated training Link with coil spring to avoid any bumps, vibrations and noises. Handling includes the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) that allows us to easily turn car and provides a turning radius of 4.6m.  In addition to this it has a five speed gearbox with manual transmission system that readily falls into hand. The hatchback has tubeless radial type tyres with a tyre size of 145/80 R13 that maintain firm grip on the road and ensure effective braking.

Safety Features

This Maruti hatchback has in built high technology safety features. The blue eyed model has both active and passive safety features to safeguard the passengers and driver inside in case of an accident. These safety features include the optional dual SRS airbag to avoid any injury to the front passengers providing a cushioning effect. There is also ABS (Anti Lock Braking) system that avoid locking of wheel incase of abrupt braking. The collapsible steering column is also one of the best safeguard against collision. The other basic features include central locking, power door locks, child safety alarm, Anti theft alarm, day and night rear view mirror, passenger side rear view mirror , halogen headlamps, front and rear seat belts with warning sign, front and side impact beams, adjustable seats and keyless entry.

Comfort features

Maruti Wagon R is a very comfortable car and is packed with many advanced features that provide very comfortable and pleasant riding. There is an adjustable tilted power steering so that we can adjust the height of the steering wheel and customize in the position according to one’s need. The electric ORVMs present allow us to change the view without opening the windows . The other basic features in the comfort zone are front and rear power windows, remote trunk and fuel lid opener, low fuel warning light, trunk light, vanity mirror, rear headrest and cup holders.
