Tata Nexon EV latest updates

What is the latest update on the Tata Nexon EV?

Customers can now check out the Red Dark edition of the Tata Nexon EV in person as the units have arrived at dealerships. In the related news, The Nexon EV has also received a larger battery pack and a couple of new features.

How much is the Tata Nexon EV’s price?

The Tata Nexon is priced from Rs 12.49 lakh for the entry-level Creative Plus Medium Range (MR) variant and tops out at Rs 16.99 lakh (introductory ex-showroom) for the fully loaded Empowered Plus 45. Tata has added two new variants with an extended battery pack(45 kWh), the variants are Empowered Plus 45 Red Dark and Empowered Plus 45. The Red Dark edition of the electric SUV is priced at Rs 17.19 lakh. (All prices are ex-showroom Delhi).

How many variants are there in Tata Nexon EV?

The Tata Nexon EV comes in a total of 12 variants. The variants are broadly classified as Creative, Fearless and Empowered. The last two further variants Empowered Plus LR Dark and Empowered Plus 45 pack more range and equipment.

What features does the Tata Nexon EV get?

The biggest feature update is that the Nexon EV now gets a panoramic sunroof and top comfort and convenience features in the Tata Nexon EV include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, connected car tech, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, keyless entry with push button start, cruise control and a 360-degree camera.

How spacious is the Tata Nexon EV?

The Tata Nexon EV will do five for an average-sized family of five people. Rear seat knee room is more than enough and the seat cushioning is adequate as well. The only catch is that you will be sitting in a slightly knees up position due to the positioning of the battery pack under the floor. This is especially evident in the Long Range (LR) version.

The Tata Nexon EV comes with a 350-litre boot that is well shaped. It also gets a front frunk. You can fit four cabin-sized trolley bags in it. Furthermore, the rear seats come with a 60:40 split functionality and can be folded down to open up more boot space.

What engine options are available with the Tata Nexon EV?

The Tata Nexon EV is offered with two powertrain options: Medium Range and Long Range.

  • Medium Range (MR): This version comes packing a 30 kWh battery pack that powers a 129 PS/215 Nm e-motor that drives the front wheels. Put your foot down and this version can do 0-100 kmph in 9.2 seconds.

  • Long Range (LR): This model of the electric SUV now features two battery packs: 40.5 kWh and a new 45 kWh. Both the battery packs come with a 143 PS/215 Nm front-wheel drive e-motor. Thanks to the additional power, this variant is slightly quicker than the MR version, hitting 100 kmph in just 8.9 seconds.

Since the Nexon EV is an electric car, both versions get a single-speed automatic transmission.

How much range can the Tata Nexon EV do in a single charge?

The claimed range of the 30 kWh battery for the Tata Nexon is rated at 325 km for the Medium Range. For the 40.5 kWh battery pack, the claimed range is 465 km, and for the 45 kWh battery the claimed range is 489 km. In the real world, you can expect the MR version to return around 200 km to 220 km, while the Nexon EV LR will deliver 350 km to 370 km. Keep in mind that the actual real world range varies based on driving style, ambient temperature and brake energy regeneration level.

How safe is the Tata Nexon EV?

The Tata Nexon EV comes loaded with safety features such as six airbags, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, hill hold control, hill descent control and electronic parking brake with auto hold.

It’s reassuring to know that the Tata Nexon EV has secured a full five star rating after being crash tested by Bharat NCAP.

How many colour options are there in the Tata Nexon EV?

The Tata Nexon EV is available in seven colour options: Daytona Grey, Pristine White, Flame Red, Creative Ocean, Fearless Purple, Empowered Oxide and Onyx Black.

Do note that colours such as Creative Ocean, Empowered Oxide and Fearless Purple are variant-specific. The Onyx Black is sold as a #Dark variant and once again, limited to higher-end variants.

We especially like:

Empowered Oxide: This hue is a middle ground between off-white and grey. The pearl specks in it give it an additional sheen.

Onyx Black: If you want something sporty with stealth, this is the one to go for. Opting for this colour also means you get an all-black interior that looks super cool!

Should you buy the Tata Nexon EV?

The answer is a yes! You can consider the Tata Nexon EV if your daily usage is fixed and have the option of installing a charger at home. The cost savings per kilometre of driving can be recuperated overtime if the running is well within the real world range. Also, the Nexon comes packing plentiful features for its price, has enough space for five people and is comfortable too.

What are my alternatives?

The Tata Nexon EV’s only direct rival in the market is the Mahindra XUV400 EV, which is larger and offers better space and boot space. However, the Mahindra isn’t as feature loaded and doesn’t look as futuristic as the Tata. If you can extend your budget, you can consider the MG ZS EV as well.

For similar price, you can consider ICE versions of compact SUVs as well, such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor.
