Toyota Camry is one of the best-selling sedans globally. The locally produced Toyota Camry facelift  was launched just back in October, after  a slightly disappointing sales performace during the first eleven months of 2011. Now, that the auto major has the revamped version in hand, Toyota has set for itself some really big target of 360,000 units this time as the Toyota Camry sold around 275,004 units until November. But, is this target quite achievable? Because, the nature has played a cruel joke with Toyota and other Japanese car manufacturers. The Thailand floods have affected the Toyota Motors quite negatively.

The production constraints have turned out to be an advantage to Camry’s closest rivals. As the result, even the new Toyota Camry was unable to garner the sales as it was expected of. November sales of this sedan is the live example in front of us that show a 7% decrease in sales as compared to the corresponding time last year. The closest competitors in the US market for this Toyota’s flagship model are Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, Honda Accord and Ford Fusion. Though quite insignificant in sales as opposed to Toyota Camry, the Japanese car manufacturer’s concern lies else where. The sales of Kia Optima and Hyundai Sonata have seen a substantial growth in sales. While Hyundai Sonata sales were up by 15%, the Kia Optima sales have literally tripled in the US car market.

Toyota India has enough time in hand before the 2012 Toyota Camry launches in the country. Sometime in the mid 2012 is when the auto major has planed for a 2012 version of Toyota Camry. Now, Toyota India could only pray for a better fate where India car market is concerned. Why because, the picture in the domestic car industry also seems similar to that of the US market. 2012 Hyundai Sonata is also expected from the Korean car manufacturer. Ford India is also said to have the Fusion sedan slated for an India launch, while Honda’s Accord is thriving in the domestic market. Quite obviously, Toyota India will have to think twice about the 2012 Toyota Camry price for the country, if not for Indian consumers, atleast fearing the upcoming competition.
