Mazda6, the mid-size model which is being produced by Japanese car maker Mazda since 2002, is set to get into its 2014 version. Details and pictures of the 2014 Mazda 6 were disclosed during the 2012 Moscow Motor Show depicting the company’s KODO – Soul of Motion design language along with the SKYACTIV technologies. The European model of the sedan is soon to be unveiled during the Paris Motor show which will be in September.
A Set of new pictures give us glimpses of the interiors where the carmaker has used soft materials on the door trims, upper part of the dashboard etc. The pictures depict that Mazda has paid attention to intrinsic details while designing the cabin.
The cabin of the 2014 Mazda 6 is such that it offers nearly 0.8 inches more shoulder room for front passengers. At the rear seats there is 1.7inches more knee clearance and the legroom has increased by 1.45inches. The mid-size sedan will now have a wheelbase which is 2,830mm long, making it 4.1 inches longer than the previous model. The overall length of the saloon will now be 4,865mm, width will be 1,840mm and height will be 1,450mm. The dimensions clearly show that the new Mazda 6 will be more spacious and bigger than its predecessor.
The SKYACTIV structure of the Mazda 6 will be made of ultra-high tensile steel which will result into reducing the weight of the car, thus helping it deliver more power and speed. The Torsional rigidity will be improved by approximately 30% resulting to a more comfortable ride and better control and handling.
Under the hood, the 3rd generation Mazda 6 will be expected to behave even better. The Russian model will be initially powered by 4-cylinder petrol engine with 2 options. There will be a SKYACTIVE-G 2.0-litre engine which is capable of 148bho of power at 6,000rpm and 210Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The other engine will be the SKYACTIVE-G 2.5-litre, delivering a power of 189bhp of power at 5,700rpm and 256Nm of torque at 3,250rpm. The powertrains are expected to be offered in 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions with a standard i-stop idling stop system.
Mazda 6 was designed and developed keeping the intrinsic core value of ‘driving pleasure’ in mind, said the new Mazda6 programme manager, Hiroshi Kajiyama.
One thing that we can’t help asking the carmakers… India on cards?
