Volkswagen India in an aggressive move to acquire a larger share in premium hatch segment, is set to launch the facelift version of Polo on July 15, 2014. The automaker has already unveiled the facelift version at the Geneva Motor Show which features both cosmetic upgrades inside-out along with mechanical modifications. Apart from many minor detailing tweaks on exterior and interior, the major changes you will notice in the mid-life upgrade is the front profile which now gets redesigned fog-lamps, front bumper with larger black air dam, single chrome lining at the bottom and blacked-out double barrel headlamps with silver accents.
The rear profile also features small and subtle changes in the form of new bumper with reflector and tweaked taillamps. The side profile remains unaltered and the car rides on 15-inch radials with a new set of silver alloys. As seen in the spied pictures, the test mule painted in white and orange gets a new paint job- we can also expect some more colour options when it is launched in India.
Inside the cabin, the facelifted version carries the ongoing dashboard with new shades and a brand new three spoke steering wheel. The multi-function three spoke steering wheel features lot of chrome lining with piano black inserts. In the top of the line variant, the steering wheel is wrapped in the leather cover. The audio system and automatic AC controls remains unchanged though central console features silver shades. Seats are now covered in the new premium upholstery.
Mechanically, the 2014 Polo gets some serious alterations. In order to gain the excise duty cut benefit, the manufacturer replaces the ongoing 1.6-litre diesel TDI engine with 1.5-litre TDI. While on the petrol front, the car will carry the 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine, which is a naturally aspirated one. The petrol engine is mated to an option of 7-speed DSG or five speed manual transmission. While the diesel engine is tuned in a way to develop power in two forms- 89bhp and 104bhp. The lower tuned motor will come with the standard models, whereas the 104 bhp will power the Polo GT TDI.
It is expected that the car will carry the same price tag as on the outgoing Polo. With the smaller engine of 1.5-litre, the diesel model is speculated to get a decent pricing along with 104 bhp GT TDI model. Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming Volkswagen Polo facelift.
