With the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz GLA crossover, the other two carmakers Audi and BMW seems gearing up to compete well against the latest entrant in the compact premium crossover segment. Audi and BMW already have Q3 and X1 crossovers in the segment, which are doing well for their respective makers. Moreover, the price war among these German giants is getting furious, all three are coming up with new products at competitive prices. Meanwhile, the next generation X1 crossover has been spied during its test rounds.
If rumors to believe, the next BMW X1 could feature the FAST (Family Activity Sports Tourer) tag, but we expect it to retain the same tag from the current model. It is also speculated that the next X1 crossover will feature a new front-wheel drive architecture, which is also known as the UKL Platform. It has been a while now that the German luxury carmaker is developing this all-new UKL platform, which will underpins the 1-Series GT and the upcoming 2014 MINI Cooper, scheduled to debut at the 2013 LA Motor Show.
Media reports also suggest that the same platform will also use to develop about 20 new BMW and MINI models in the future. The new BMW X1 will feature some styling updates at both the front fascia and at the rear. The cabin is also expected to get some styling updates.
Along with the regular engine range, the new BMW X1 will also get the new 1.5-litre TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine that churns out maximum power output of between 122 and 224bhp. The vehicle is expected to be unveiled in 2014, and likely to be launched by the early 2015.
This is all what we have for now, stay tuned to CarDekho for more updates on the same.
