Mini Cooper will be launching its all-new offering in India, the 2016 Cooper Convertible on March 16. The Cooper Convertible will be brought in India as a CBU (Completely Built-up Unit) and will be based on the new UKL platform.
BMW India President, Philipp von Sahr confirmed the launch of the 2016 Convertible and the Clubman in 2016 for the Indian market, at the recently culminated 2016 Auto Expo which concluded earlier this month.
The 2016 Mini Convertible has a fabric soft top powered by electric motors and folding into a pram-style bundle on top of the boot-lid. The top can be retracted within 18 seconds and Mini claims that the closing and opening of the roof is much smoother than before.
The 2016 Cooper convertible has bigger dimensions than the outgoing model. It is now 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm taller than the previous model and also has a 28mm longer wheelbase. The increased dimensions have improved the cabin and boot space significantly. This premium hatchback will most likely be powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol, producing 133.9 bhp, and a 1.5 litre 3-cylinder diesel churning out 115.9bhp of power.
We expect 2016 Cooper Convertible be priced around Rs.35 Lac and will compete against the Volkswagen Beetle, Abarth 595 Competizione, BMW 1 series, and Mercedes A Class, in the luxury hatchback segment.
