Korean car manufacturer Hyundai has showcased the Verna concept at the ongoing Auto China 2016 in Beijing. It gives us a glimpse of how the next-gen Verna will look like when it goes on sale next year. This is the second concept showcase by Hyundai, following the Carlino concept, that was showcased at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo.
The exteriors follow a toned-down version of the company's current Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy. However, it retains trademark Hyundai styling elements, such as the pulled-back headlamps and the hexagonal grille. We particularly like the matte silver appliques and the outlandish-looking grille. However, expect these to be chucked out for the production-spec version.
The most noticeable change is at the rear, where the concept sports a notchback-like design. The new tail lamps look inspired by the Elite i20 that suits the rear profile well. Notably, the registration plate has been moved down to the bumper, while the boot features a subtle spoiler. The side profile, on the other hand, remains virtually unchanged, save for a minor nip and tuck near the C-pillar. Since this is just a concept, Hyundai has neither divulged details about the engines nor given us a dekko at the interiors. However, we expect a complete revamp for the interiors as well.
The Verna has been a bestseller for the Korean manufacturer, especially in India. However, with the competition upping the ante, it feels slightly dated. We think it desperately needed an update and are glad Hyundai is giving it one. Does the new design look better than the current one? Or worse? Let us know through the comments section below!
