The updated Jazz is available in two variants with the petrol engine and three variants with the diesel

Honda has launched the 2018 Jazz in India, prices for which start from Rs 7.35 lakh and go up to Rs 9.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Unlike the global version, the updated Jazz has not received any styling updates in India apart from the LED inserts in tail lamps. Honda has updated the Jazz’s features list and it’s now available in fewer variants than before. So if you are planning to buy the new Jazz and confused about which variant to go for, read on.

Honda Jazz S - Available only with diesel

Price: Rs 8.05 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)

Features:

  • Dual front airbags
  • ABS with EBD
  • LED rear tail lamps
  • 15-inch steel wheels with cover
  • Integrated music system with Bluetooth
  • Steering-mounted controls for music and telephony
  • Manual AC
  • Front armrest
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Day/night IRVM
  • Electrically adjustable ORVM
  • Height adjustable driver seat
  • Rear defogger
  • Tilt-adjustable power steering
  • All four power windows
  • Keyless entry and central locking
  • One-touch lane change indicator

Verdict: Having omitted the lower E Variant (E & S for petrol) from the Jazz lineup, Honda might have made the entry-level Jazz more expensive than before but that also means that Jazz is going to be fairly loaded in all its variants. The S variant is available with the diesel engine only, and while it’s the base spec Jazz, it’s not the most affordable since Jazz’ V variant with the petrol engine costs less. The base-spec Jazz is equipped with all the features you would expect in the car of this segment. So, if you are looking to buy the Jazz diesel and only this variant fits in your budget, you can go ahead with this one.

Honda Jazz

Honda Jazz V - available for petrol and diesel

Petrol

Diesel

Price Jazz V MT / CVT

Rs 7.35 lakh / Rs 8.55 lakh

Rs 8.85 lakh

Difference (from S variant)

-

Rs 80,000

Features (Over S)

  • Automatic climate control
  • 5-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth and reverse camera support
  • Reverse parking camera
  • Push button start (available only in petrol CVT and diesel MT)
  • Cruise control (available only in petrol CVT and diesel MT)

Honda Jazz

  • Paddle shifters (available only in petrol CVT)
  • Front fog lamps
  • 15-inch alloys
  • Rear wiper and washer

Verdict: The petrol-powered Jazz V MT is the most affordable Jazz you can buy. The difference of Rs 1.5 lakh between the petrol and diesel Jazz V makes the petrol-powered Jazz a more value-for-money purchase. It’s also loaded with more than what we would consider bare minimum for a premium hatchback. If you are looking for a petrol automatic Jazz, you can go for the V variant. The Jazz V CVT is priced at a premium of Rs 1.2 lakh over the manual variant.

If you’re going for the diesel Jazz and the V variant falls within your budget, you can go for it since we think the Rs 80,000 price premium you’d pay for it over the Jazz S is justified for the additional features.

Honda Jazz VX

Petrol

Diesel

Price Jazz VX MT/CVT

Rs 7.79 lakh/Rs 8.99 lakh

Rs 9.29 lakh

Difference (from V variant)

Rs 44,000/Rs 44,000

Rs 44,000

Features (Over V)

  • Rear LED wing lights (introduced with the update)

Honda Jazz

  • 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (introduced with the update)

  • Electrically foldable ORVMs

Verdict: Since it is the top-spec variant, it technically comes with all bells and whistles but the add-on features aren’t compelling enough for us to call the top-spec Jazz a compelling buy. If you are someone with no budget constraints and won’t mind paying extra for some features, you can, maybe, consider this variant but otherwise, it’s the V variant of the Jazz that’s the most sensible pick. This variant is also available with the petrol-CVT combination, which is priced at a premium of Rs 1.2 lakh over the manual variant.
