We take a closer look at what is likely to be the second-gen Hyundai Creta
The second-gen Hyundai Creta is expected to arrive in India by early 2020, but it has already been previewed by its Chinese counterpart called the ix25. The ix25 has now started arriving at dealer floors ahead of its launch in China, allowing us a more detailed look inside and out. Hyundai is expected to launch the second-gen Creta at the 2020 Auto Expo.
Exterior
The China-spec ix25 looks significantly different from the current Creta, featuring Hyundai’s new Sensuous 2.0 design language first seen on the Venue. The LED DRLs are mounted above the projector headlamp units with a different front grille.
The new grille also features sporty vents just below the bonnet lid.
Its new headlamp unit features multi-reflector LEDs like it’s cousin, the Kia Seltos.
Its side profile remains boxy with cladding along the sides and on the wheel arches. The model seen here gets a silver C-pillar with a dual-tone black roof. It can also be seen with new alloy wheels.
From the rear, it is completely different from the current-gen Creta. The tailgate is beefier with a light bar connecting the new tail lamps. It still has a black bumper with a silver skid plate.
The second-gen Creta will be based on the Kia Seltos and thus, it will be bigger than the current model. You can read our dimension comparison of the three models here.
Interior
The most contested aspect of the ix25 that previews the next-gen Creta is not its exterior but the interior. This China-spec model features a new dashboard layout.
The model seen here features an all-new central console layout with a Tesla-like vertical touchscreen interface for the infotainment system and climate control. Its layout is integrated into the console tunnel with piano black finish.
However, another version of the ix25 was seen sporting a Kia Seltos like dashboard layout. It is yet unclear what dashboard layout will feature in the the India-spec Creta.
The new ix25 seen here is an automatic variant with a new gear selector design.
It also features a new semi-digital instrument cluster which now gets a sportier layout with a multi-info display (MID) in the centre.
The next-gen Creta will most likely be equipped with an eSIM for Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car technology features.
Engines
The China-spec Hyundai ix25 gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine only. The India-spec 2020 Creta will be powered by the same BS6 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines found in the Kia Seltos.
Hyundai is also expected to offer the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Seltos, perhaps as a sportier N-Line variant.
