Tata has revealed the 2023 Harrier and Safari facelifts, ahead of the launch and has now started taking orders of both SUVs for a token amount of Rs 25,000. Both SUVs get major design changes inside and out and get a few feature additions. If you are looking to buy one of these, you can make your booking through Tata’s website or via an authorised dealership.
Updated Design
Both SUVs have received similar design upgrades. These changes include a redesigned grille, sleek indicators, Nexon and Nexon EV-like vertically stacked split LED headlights and an elongated LED DRL strip running across the width of the bonnet.
The rear profile of both SUVs gets a connected LED tail lamp setup with a welcome animation, and the font used for the Safari badge has been changed. Harrier’s taillamps also feature a Z-shaped light signature. Both also get a revised bumper and a more prominent skid plate.

The side profile of both SUVs are now neater but the overall design is still the same. The updated Safari gets new 19-inch alloy wheels and the Harrier also gets new 18-inch black alloy wheels with aerodynamic inserts.
Redesigned Cabin
Both SUVs get similar-looking refreshed cabins. The dashboards get layered designs with curves at the bottom. The Harrier also gets different coloured cabins based on the exterior shade. These cabins get a new 4-spoke steering wheel with a backlit Tata logo, a bigger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and an ambient lighting strip running across the width of the dashboard.
It also gets a new layout for the touch-based climate control panel with just two toggles. The central console gets a new dial for the drive modes and terrain modes that also has a display.
In terms of colour schemes, Tata will offer multiple themes for the cabin depending on the variant and exterior colour chosen, as seen with the facelifted Nexon and Nexon EV.
New Variants
Both the SUVs get new nomenclature for variants, similar to the new Nexon and Nexon EV. The 2023 Harrier is being offered in four broad variants: Smart, Pure, Fearless and Adventure, and the Safari facelift now also comes in four broad variants: Smart, Pure, Adventure and Accomplished. Both these SUVs also get respective dark editions in the form of exterior colour options.
No New Powertrain
Both SUVs retain the 2-litre diesel engine (170PS/350Nm) with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The automatic variants come with paddle shifters and an electronic parking brake. However, Tata is still expected to introduce its 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine on these facelifted SUVs in the near future.
Features & Safety
With this update, both the Harrier and Safari can get a host of feature updates besides the larger displays for the driver’s cluster and the infotainment system. Both also now come with dual-zone climate control and gesture-controlled powered tailgate. Existing features include wireless phone charging, powered adjustable and ventilated front seats (ventilated second row as well for the 6-seater Safari), cruise control and a panoramic sunroof.
In terms of passenger safety, they can get up to seven airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), 360-degree camera, and a suite of ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) features. The 2023 Harrier and Safari add the convenience of adaptive cruise control to the list of ADAS benefits.
Price & Rivals
Tata can launch the facelifted Harrier and Safari sometime in November. The 2023 Harrier is expected to be priced from Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) and will continue to rival the Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector and Jeep Compass. The 2033 Safari on the other hand, can be priced from Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom) and will go up against the Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar.
