The 5-door Mahindra Thar is being extensively tested by the carmaker ahead of its launch next year and new spy shots of the off-roader frequently keep surfacing online. After its recent sighting, where its front profile was spotted with a new LED headlamp and DRL setup, its rear profile has been seen again in detail. Here is everything you need to know about the bigger Mahindra Thar.
Beefier Design
Being an off-roader, the 3-door Mahindra Thar has always looked rugged and muscular, and its 5-door version will take this up a notch. The rear profile spotted gets sleeker LED tail lights which are different compared to the standard 3-door, and the production-ready 5-spoke alloy wheels are also present here.
Its side profile will more or less be the same but with a longer wheelbase and two additional doors. The fascia is also more muscular with the 6-slat grille and circular LED lighting setup. Also, this version will come with a single-pane sunroof.
Inside The Bigger Thar
Mahindra will not only make changes on the outside but on the inside as well. One of the recent spy shots revealed the presence of a bigger touchscreen in the centre console, and the cabin theme will most likely be new as well.

In regard to its features list, apart from the bigger touchscreen infotainment system and a sunroof, it can also get dual-zone climate control and rear AC vents. For passenger safety, Mahindra could offer it with up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill hold and descent control and a rear parking camera.
What Will Power It?
To power the elongated Thar, Mahindra could offer the 2-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options seen on its 3-door version. These engines will most likely be in a higher stage of tune and can be offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission option. Just like the standard Thar, the 5-door version can also be offered with both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and 4-wheel-drive (4WD) setups.
