While 6 airbags haven’t become a mandatory standard feature just yet, brands like Hyundai and Tata have updated many of their models to offer it anyway
Safety has become one of the primary factors affecting a new car purchase and the government is trying to do its part by ensuring carmakers meet certain basic standards for safer vehicles. Back in early 2022, a new government mandate was proposed to make six airbags part of the standard safety feature list on all cars eligible for carrying up to eight occupants. While that mandate is yet to come into effect, many carmakers have made the step forward anyway and have updated even affordable models to offer this safety feature as standard.
Note: 6 airbags denote two up front (one each in the dashboard and the steering wheel), two on the sides of the front occupants, and the remaining two as curtain airbags that offer protection to the heads of rear passengers as well.
If you’re looking for an affordable car with 6 airbags as standard, here are 8 such models priced under Rs 10 lakh:

Prior to this safety update, only the top-spec Asta trim was equipped with a total of six airbags while four were available from the base variant onwards.
