The leading commercial vehicle manufacturer now envisages entering the passenger vehicle manufacturing. The advancement in that direction is through introducing the multi-seater based on the Nissan’s NV 200 van platform. The Nissan NV 200 is currently being sold in the overseas market, which the Japanese auto major expects to showcase in the 2012 Indian Auto Expo in January. However, the Ashok Leyland’s Nissan NV 200-based model is most likely to take over a year. Ashok Leyland did not divulge any information regarding the price for the proposed utility vehicle. The Ashok Leyland model is likely to be priced below Toyota Innova to have a direct competition with Mahindra Xylo. Toyota Innova has proved to be successful over the past few years with increasing demand for such vehicles in India.
