Audi India racing to overtake BMW’s sale

The three German auto majors are up against each other for a battle of supremacy in the emerging Indian market. Mercedes is the old player here, who arrived for well over a decade ago whereas BMW and Audi are the new entrants. Interestingly the late arrivers have dethroned Mercedes from its top position. Audi has taken over Mercedes in the first quarter of 2012, with BMW leading the field just by a whisker. Ergonomically BMW India has sold 2,369 units, while Audi has clocked in 2,269 unit sales. Mercedes was just able to grab 2,130 units in the first quarter of 2012. Meanwhile Audi is all set to launch Q3 crossover which will be the latest addition to the Teuton Brand Luxury crossover portfolio.

The Q3 crossover launch is very vital for Audi as this will be an entry level offering, which is aimed to lure to the young buyers. However, the price of Audi Q3 is likely to be more than BMW Q1 crossover. At present Audi is leading the luxury crossover segment in India and Q3 is expected to further amplify its share. As Q3 will be a low price variant, the car can fetch good sales volume and might tilt the cart. SUV’s market in India is very strong and these rough and tough SUV’s work is apt for Indian roads that the luxury sedans. The ground clearance is less in sedans which makes your ride bumpy.

BMW is not sitting idle amidst the hustle and bustle going on in Audi’s camp, the company is preparing to roll out 2012 F30 BMW 3 series sedan. This upcoming sedan has received rave reviews from all across the globe. BMW will bring in F30 3 series through CKD route and the car will be assembled at its Chennai facility. The company is expected to commence the sales from later half of the year. As for the price, BMW F30 3 series price will be tagged above the X1 crossover. BMW is expecting to bag in big sales considering this crossover is a step above in terms of technology and everything. Mercedes on the other hand is placing its bet on the 2012 B-class sports tourer, which is an entry level offering.
