Audi A3, the most affordable sedan from the Ingolstadt based manufacturer will now be available in the Cabriolet form in India by next month. First showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, the car is based on the same A3 sedan and as its 4-seater convertible, it gets a conventional soft top instead of a complex metal folding roof.
The interesting thing about the car is that the roof automatically opens and closes in under 18-seconds while driving at speeds up to 50kmph. On the exterior, the A3 cabriolet features bi-xenon headlamps with day-time-running-LEDs and S-line body kits.
The Audi A3 cabriolet shares the interior design with sedan and features seven-inch pop up infotainment screen for the Audi MMI, Bang and Olufsen sound system, dual-zone climate control, rear view camera and navigation.
In terms of engine specification, the cabriolet carries a 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine which develops a power of 177.7bhp and 350Nm of peak torque. Seeing the demand of diesel engine, Audi India might also bring the 2.0-litre 35TDI. The safety is enhanced by the safety features such ESP, traction control, ABS and airbags. Though the Audi A3 sedan is manufactured in Aurangabad, expect the cabriolet to be available as CBU (Complete Built-up Unit ) and thus will be priced in the vicinity of Rs 45-50 lacs.
