Audi introduced A3 1.4 TFSI Ultra – the Eco-friendly, sporty and fuel efficient version of A3 with a 1.4 liter turbo charged petrol motor. It's the same engine that powers the Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI in the country. The German automaker is all set to expand its economical yet punchy Ultra range of models and the company will soon introduce A3 1.6 TDI Ultra turbo diesel in sedan. Audi India is prepping up for the A3 sedan and convertible launch, which is reportedly in August, showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo, the car has been spotted testing numerous time online.
Speaking about the engine, the 1.4 liter TFSI - 1395cc turbo charge petrol mill belts out 150hp of maximum power while the torque stands at 250Nm nearly in the range of 1500-3500rpm. The engine comes with two transmission options - 6 speed manual transmission or 7 speed S- tronic automatic transmission. The powertrain propels the A3 from 0-100 in 8.1 seconds with a top speed of 220kmph. The motor boast cylinder-on-demand technology, thanks to this Audi claims an astonishing fuel efficiency figure of 4.7 liters to 100km (approximately – 21kmpl) in combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 109 g/km.
The A3 Ultra sedan housing the 1.6 liter TDI features a tweaked version of Volkswagen's 1.6 TDI motor. Its the same motor that pulls the Vento in India. The uprated motor gathers 110hp of maximum power while the torque will be in excess of 250Nm. If you think this wasn't enough, the German automaker claims a whooping 3.3 liter to 100km (combined cycle) which result into nearly 30kmpl of mileage! The engine produces C02 emission of 88 grams at every kilometer.
Apart from this, the other expected engine for the upcoming A3 in India are the 1.8 TFSI and the 2.0 TDI. The 1.8 liter TFSI which also pulls the new Octavia produces 177.6bhp of max power in the range of 5100-6200rpm. The engine musters a torque of 250Nm, although the torque is similar to that of the 1.4 TFSI but it starts building very early at 1250rpm and stays with you till 5000rpm. Furthermore, A3 shares the 2.0 TDI diesel with several cars in the VW stable - VW Passat, Jetta; Audi A4, A6 and the new Skoda Octavia. In India, the 2.0 TDI features several state of tunes; in Octavia the engine churns out 141bhp while in Audi A4 it produces 174.6bhp. Lets see what A3 gets.
