Before their official debut at the forthcoming Paris Auto Show, Audi has revealed the TT Roadster and slightly sportier TTS Roadster. Just like the coupe form, Audi hasn't changed the basic formula for the third-generation convertible model, though it carries some important updates. Based on the Volkswagen Group’s flexible MQB platform, the vehicle will come with an EA888 turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Despite of being a convertible, the curb weight of the vehicle stands at just 1,319 kgs.
In terms of performance figures, in TT guise, the new convertible churns out 230-bhp and 370 Nm of torque. While the uprated TTS, pumps out a good 310 bhp and 380 Nm. Transmission options comes in the form of six-speed manual and six-speed S tronic dual-clutch. The drive in the TT is to the front wheels, but quattro all-wheel drive is still available on the TTS. The system uses an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch to distribute the drive torque between the front and rear axle, depending on driving conditions.
Speaking about the vehicle, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Board Member for Technical Development at AUDI AG said, “The concept of designing a compact roadster following clear geometrical rules formed the original idea for the Audi TT in autumn 1994. From the first generation on, it has been a sports car for the senses – a driving machine with an authentic design. With the new TT Roadster, we have developed this concept in a consistent manner and further improved the technical experience in the car with innovations such as the Audi virtual cockpit.”
Audi virtual cockpit is another prominent update for the new TT Roadster. In this, a single 12.3-inch digital display located behind the steering wheel replaces a car’s standard analog instruments as-well-as its central display. Everything from the vital statistics on speed and revs to navigation and entertainment functions are displayed through this single system.
