Luxury car maker from Germany, Audi is working on a city car that will return an excellent 100kmpl of mileage, British autoportal Autocar reports. Audi's technical development head, Wolfagang Durheimer told that the car will be based on Audi's compact car A1 and will be a four-seater and will have all the comfort features including climate control. Moreover, the car will have electrical assistance, but not a diesel powertrain. Codenamed as the "1.0-litre Car", the super fuel efficient city vehicle will be so competitive in price as well.
However, not much details have been disclosed about the car, but the company is expecting it to be the most economical family car ever produced. Durheimer further said that the modified version of the A1's steel platform can be used for the 1.0-litre car, “because weight is not the biggest engineering challenge with this project”
However, the car's interior might get lighter than normal, so as the supension. Autocar UK further said that a new type of injection-moulded carbonfibre can be used for some components, which can be made in mere two and half minutes, a very much faster process than conventional carbonfibre manufacturing. Audi which has started working on this highly anticipated project, might take another three years to make its debut.
