Auto Expo - First Day First Show

It was a busy day at the Delhi Auto Expo held at Pragati Maidan where the media kept its eyes fixed on the hottest wheels and the latest drives. Cardekho.com team reached the event in the morning and covered the event live. The event kicked off with the display of Maruti Suzuki models. The cars showcased were Maruti SX4 hatchback and Hybrid, Maruti RIII and Kizashi. Maruti SX4 hatchback on display is powered by 2.0 litres and delivers maximum torque of 190Nm at 4000 rpm and saving the environment by cutting CO2 emissions. Maruti SX4 Hybrid with a size of a Sedan was showcased too. Both these models are imported and are CBU (Completely Built Unit). Another Maruti RIII (MPV) launched is a concept car that is priced between 4-5 lacs (speculated). The model unvieled was an example of how its variants will look like even though the varinats have not been thought of as yet. Maruti Kizashi which has recieved a tremendous response in the International market was yesterday uncovered at the Auto Expo. The car will be powered by 2.4 L, DOHC,four cylinder engine. The automatic transmission gearbox can deliver 180 bhp power with a maximum torque of 230.35 Nm. Kizashi is expected to be priced between 12-15 lacs. Maruti Vitara that could not find a positive response in the Indian market earlier was displayed yesterday with a new look. Maruti Eeco (entry level MPV) is due to launch tomorrow, it is being looked at as the most awaited car by the masses. The next in display was German Manufactured Volkswagen that displayed two models namely Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen Race Polo. The Polo will come with two engines options - one diesel and another petrol variant.The petrol varinat is powered by 1.2 L engine and delivers a power of 75 bhp at 5400 rpm, delivers 110 Nm torque at 3750 rpm whereas diesel varinat will come with a 1.2 L engine,power of 75 bhp at 4200 rpm and 180 Nm torque at 2000 rp.Both the variants have a five speed manual transmission gearbox. Volkswagen Race Polo is powered by 1.6 L engine and delivers 130 bhp at 4400 rpm and 250 Nm at 1500-2500 rpm. Next in line was Tata Motors that displayed five of its models at the Auto Expo - Tata Venture, Tata Aria, Tata Prima, Tata Indica Vista Electric and Jaguar XJ. Tata Venture, a MPV eight seater hatchback possesses 1.4 L turbo diesel engine that delivers maximum power of 70 PS.Tata Aria on the other hand is a combination of a MUV and a SUV.This seven seater model delivers a power of 140 PS with 320 Nm of maximum torque. The green car displayed at the Tata Motors pavilion was the Tata Indica Vista Electric that comes with power of 55 KW,160 Nm torque and has a PERM Magnet Motor. The model tthat is a 1 speed FWD touches the top speed of 128 kmph with the capacity of running at a speed of 30 kmph from 0 in a matter of 4.5 seconds and catches up from 0 to 60 kmph in mere 90 seconds. The new electric car can go upto 160 km per charge and has a battery capacity of 26.6 kwh. Honda uncovered six cars at the show,out of which five of them were existing or on road cars that have been modified and displayed at the Auto Expo such as Honda City, Honda CRV, Honda Jazz,Honda Accord and Honda Accord V6.The only new entry was the untilted car from Honda that has been temporarily named as “Honda's New Small Car”. Toyota showcased Toyota Etios that has a 1.4 L diesel engine and 1.3 L petrol engine. Toyota Prius was yet another model displayed in the Auto Expo. The model possesses Electronic Control CVT transmission,2 ZR-FXE Gasoline engine 16 valve POHC with BVCI. Skoda displayed SUV Skoda Yeti which will be manufactured in Aurangabad plant in India as a Completely knock down Unit(CKU) and will be priced between 18-20 lacs. Mercedes Benz launched GL class, CDI and S 500L at the Auto Expo. Mercedes Benz SLS will be priced at 2 crores.  

BMW unvield four of its models - BMW X1, BMW X6, Gran Turismo and BMW 760 Li. BMW X6 is powered by 4.4 L V8 engine and delivers 555 bhp at 600 rpm.It picks up a speed of 100 kph from 0 in a matter of 4.7 seconds. BMW 760 Li gives maximum power of 400PS and is loaded with a 6.0 L engine. It develops a peak torque of 750 Nm at 1500 rpm. It will be priced at 1.29 crores whereas Gran Turismo that was also uncovered yesterday will be priced at 63 lacs.
