Auto sales continue to rise in India

The Indian auto industry has registered a record braking sales jump in the month of March as against the sales in the same month of last fiscal. All Major automobile companies including Maruti, Hyundai, Tata, Honda , Mahindra & Mahindra, General Motors, Ford and Fiat have registered a high jump in their sales of March.
Aggressively launched discount offers and the attraction of higher depreciation benefits coupled to help in receiving strong sales in March despite a 2% hike in excise duty and hike in fuel price. It is expected that the sales of Indian auto industry has crossed the 2 million units mark in 2009-10, as in the first 11 months till February end, passenger car sales in the country were at 1.75 million.
Many new cars in India which were launched in recent months in India including Chevrolet Beat, Ford Figo and Volkswagen Polo has received a very good response by the Indian buyers. Besides this Maruti remain the market leader with selling some of the best selling models in India including Maruti Alto, Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Ritz, Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift Dzire.
Ford Figo, which was launched in India last month is receiving a very good response with receiving bookings of around 10,000 Figo in less then one month. Due to the high sales of Figo model total sales of Ford India in March increased to 9,478 units, accounted for a whooping 203 percent increase as compare to the same period of last year. Besides the Ford Figo, other models of company including Ford Ikon, Ford Fiesta, and Ford Endeavour, were almost tripled Ford India’s February sales, increasing 194 percent.
On the other hand General Motors India which launched Chevrolet Beat model in January, also registered a double fold increase in its sales in month of March as compare to the sales of same period of last year.
Tata Motors also registered its highest ever sales in fiscal year 2009-10 by selling a total of 6.42 lakh units of its vehicles including commercial vehicles. Along with this the sale of its passenger vehicles increased 17% during this fiscal year. Hyundai India, country's second largest car maker registered highest domestic sales in March with 31,501 units.
