Porsche 918 Spyder remains to be the world's fastest production car to record Nordschleife circuit in 6 minutes and 57 seconds.
Nurburgring owners have reportedly banned manufacturer’s to do any lap record further. It's a saddening news for plenty of go-fast automakers as this circuit is the best proving ground in the world to test their machines. This has resulted due to the fatal accident of Nissan GTR during a race from the VLN Endurance Championship couple of months earlier, in which a spectator died and few were injured.
Things are more saddening for Christian von Koenigsegg CEO of Koenigsegg supercars, they were on the verge of breaking Porsche's record. And they could have done it with their world's first car to have the perfect 1:1 power to weight ratio - Koenigsegg One:1 - 1341-hp hybrid megacar!
Last year in March, Nurburgring was sold to a German firm - Capricorn Development, based in Düsseldor. The famed circuit went into bankruptcy in July 2012, and was up for bidding in 2013. It features a Grand Prix circuit and a North Loop (in German - Nordschleife) which is nearly 20 km long (13 miles). Nicknamed as "The Green Hell”, it is still considered to be most demanding and difficult purposely build circuit in the entire world.
But, unfortunately, no manufacturer would be able to claim another staggering lap time to add in their car’s USP list! Moreover, this North Loop was built in 1927 and it stretches in excess of lush green 937 acres and hosts numerous testing and development centers of various brands. The North Loop is based around the Eifel mountains and the Nurburg castle in Germany.
