BMW India has now confirmed that it will launch the much anticipated 1-Series in India on September 3, 2013. The 1-Series will directly compete against the recently launched Mercedes-Benz A-Class, which has received an excellent response from the buyers across the nation. The company has already started taking pre-bookings for the upcoming hatchbacks, and has sent email notification to potential buyers. More interestingly, BMW India is also offering 'BMW Service Inclusive Plus' for free for the first 100 customers.
The 1-Series will be available with both petrol and diesel engine options. While the diesel version of the premium hatchback will be powered by the 2.0-litre engine that develops 143bhp, the petrol version will get the 1.6-litre turbocharged direct injection motor, which also powers the MINI Cooper and Cooper S. The petrol engine is capable of developing power output of 136bhp. Both the engines will be coupled to a 8-speed automatic transmissions.
The BMW 1 Series will be produced locally at the company's Chennai based manufacturing unit. We expect it to be priced around Rs. 20-25 lakh.
