    BMW i7 M70 xDrive Launched In India! The First All-electric M Car Arrives Along With Its The M-Sport Diesel Version

     The BMW i7 M70 xDrive is a completely built-up unit (CBU), whereas the 740d M Sport is assembled locally

    • The BMW 70xDrive is priced at Rs 2.50 crore, and it’s Rs 47 lakh more expensive than the regular xDrive 60 variant.

    • The 740d M Sport on the other hand is priced at Rs 1.81 crore. It costs Rs 3 lakh more than its petrol counterpart.

    The first all-electric M car from BMW, the i7 M70xDrive, has arrived on our shores and will be sold in India as a completely built-up unit (CBU). Additionally, the German automaker has introduced the diesel variant of the 7 Series, the 740d M Sport. Unlike its electric counterpart, the diesel version of the BMW 7 series is available as a completely knocked down unit (CKD). Before delving into the specifics of what these models have to offer, let's take a look at their respective prices.

    As you can see in the table, the diesel variant of the BMW 7 Series is Rs 3 lakh more expensive than its already-on-sale petrol variant. However, when it comes to the all-electric i7, customers will have to pay a whopping Rs 47 lakh more for the all-electric M70xDrive over its regular xDrive60 variant.

    How Do They Look?

    The BMW 7 Series 740d M Sport looks the same as its petrol counterpart. From the front, the 7 Series looks imposing with its large illuminated kidney grille and split headlight setup. Both the petrol and diesel versions of the 7 Series feature aerodynamically designed 20-inch alloy wheels. They also sport M Sport badges on the sides. At the rear, the LED taillamps look sleek, and there's a chunky rear bumper as well.

    Talking about the M70 xDrive, it continues with the same design language as its ICE version, but gets M-specific highlights, blacked-out kidney grille at the front, M side skirts, M logos on the sides, and a bigger 21-inch alloy which has been designed aerodynamically. 

    Interior Highlights

    Inside, both the ICE and electric versions of the 7 Series share the same dashboard design. However, the all-electric M70 xDrive also offers carbon fiber trims with the option of black or grey M Merino leather upholstery. Both the 740d M Sport and M70 xDrive feature M-specific highlights, such as M door sills and a 3-spoke M Walknappa leather steering wheel with an M badge.

    2023 BMW 7 Series and i7 rear screen

    In terms of features, both ICE and electric versions of the BMW 7 series come with a 31.3-inch 8K touchscreen display for rear passenger,  a curved display setup (a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display). The infotainment system runs on BMW’s Operating system 8. Other features include powered front and rear seats with massage function, and ambient lighting.

    The ICE version of the BMW 7 series includes a 1965W 36-speaker sound system, while the electric M70 gets a 35-speaker sound system with the same output. 

    The safety on both ICE and electric 7 series is taken care of by 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, dynamic stability control, cornering brake control, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS),and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features like lane change warning, blind spot assistance, and rear crossing traffic warning. 

    Additionally the electric version of the sedan also gets automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.

    The BMW i7's M70 variant offers more power and torque, resulting in faster acceleration. However, this comes at the expense of driving range. 

    Both ICE and electric sedans come with an adaptive air suspension system which automatically adjusts the ride height based on the type of terrain. It ensures better handling and a comfortable ride.

    The BMW 7 series takes on the Mercedes-Benz S Class and Audi A8L, while the i7 takes on the Mercedes-Benz EQS. The M70 xDrive variant of the i7 rivals the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53.
