BMW will launch its first EV in India, the iX, on December 13.
Internationally, the all-electric SUV is available in two variants: base-spec iX XDrive 40 (330PS/630Nm) and iX XDrive 50 (530PS/765Nm), both with a dual-motor setup and AWD. Another iX M60 (producing over 600PS) will also join the lineup in the future.
The XDrive 40 and 50 come with 71kWh and 105kWh battery packs, respectively. As per WLTP, the former returns a range of 425km, while the latter is good for 630km on a single charge. The BMW iX supports fast-charging up to 200W; 0 to 80 percent takes 40 minutes.
Inside, the BMW EV has a clean dashboard design with a hexagonal-shaped steering wheel. But the centre of attraction is the dual-display setup, as seen on the latest Mercs. The iX is equipped with a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen system featuring BMW’s latest iDrive 8 infotainment software (a first for the carmaker in the country).
Other noteworthy mentions include an optional Bowers and Wilkins sound system with 4D audio, 5G mobile connectivity, and a panoramic sunroof. Safety kit includes Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) comprising lane keep assist, front collision warning, and remote-theft recorder. We hope BMW brings all these features to India.
BMW will launch the iX here as a completely built-up unit (CBU) at an expected price of Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom). It is the first of the three EVs the carmaker plans to launch in India within the next six months.
The electric SUV will go up against the Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi e-tron SUV, and Jaguar I-Pace.
