BMW is continuing its streak of EV launches in India with the BMW iX1 electric SUV priced at Rs 66.90 lakh (ex-showroom pan India) . It has arrived just around 8 months since the launch of the current-gen X1 ICE model, and over a year after its global debut . It’s the fourth BMW EV in India along with the iX, i7, and i4. The iX1 shares its platform with its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, the X1. Let’s see what it has to offer.
Minimal Visual Differences From Regular X1
The BMW iX1 closely resembles the ICE X1 in terms of design, much like the Volvo XC40 and XC40 Recharge. Unlike the international model, the India-spec iX1 doesn’t get the blue inserts on bumpers and side skirts. It retains elements such as the prominent BMW kidney chrome grille, closed off in the electric version, and slim LED headlights from the X1 SUV.
It gets 18-inch M light alloy wheels, as seen on the M-Sport variant of the X1. At the rear, the iX1 features horizontally stacked L-shaped LED tail lights, and the chunky looking rear bumper.

The highlight is its curved integrated display, consisting of a 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which runs on BMW's i-Drive 8.5 operating system. This system also offers support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. All the climate controls are also controlled by the touchscreen interface.
Other features onboard the iX1 include a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, electrically adjustable front seats with massage function, dual-zone climate control, upstanding wireless phone charging, and a panoramic sunroof. In terms of safety, it has got multiple airbags, rear parking camera, park assist, and driver assist features like cruise control with brake function and front-collision warning.
Powertrain
The BMW iX1 is equipped with a battery pack that has a gross energy capacity of 66.4kWh and available in just the xDrive30 variant. It boasts a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration with a combined output of 313PS and 494Nm. The iX1 xDrive30 provides a WLTP claimed range of up to 440 km. An 11kW wallbox AC charger will take 6.3 hours to replenish the battery from empty to full.
Rivals
In India, the BMW iX1 competes with the Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge while being a luxury alternative to the likes of the BYD Atto 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
