BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi Among the Top 10 Most Desired Brands in India

Clear, which is a part of the M&C Saatich group had conducted a study on global brands, the results of which state that the luxury auto makers from Germany - BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz have secured a place in the top 10 most desired brands in India. This study covered 555 brands, 6 global markets, 5,000 consumers in India and China and interviews of around 22,000 people. The list of India’s 10 most desired global brands goes like – Microsoft, BMW, Google, Apple, Adidas, Mercedes Benz, Audi, Disney, Sony and IBM. In the Indian automotive industry, the top player is BMW which is leading at the second position in the aforementioned list.

Audi who recently climbed to the second position in the list of luxury car makers in terms of sales, has been ranked seventh just below its arch rival Mercedes Benz in this list. Mercedes Benz is the oldest player of the Indian car market in comparison to the other two automakers and it goes without saying that these luxury giants can go undefeated for a long time in future also. These cars are status symbols in India and no other car maker across the globe can fix its roots here as they did. The only competitor in the global market for these brands is the Jaguar Land Rover owned by Tata Motors, but when it comes to India it can be seen that the JLR has not gained enough recognition; the reason could either be the presence of selected models only or hefty price tag on account of the CBU operations or both.

According to the Managing Director of Clear Singapore, Charlotte Wilkinson, the company digs deep into research to figure out what drives the desire for a particular brand and what makes it more successful than other brands across the globe and especially in the booming markets of India and China. The MD also mentioned that the two markets are similar in terms of demand for the branded products and services but the understanding the depth of the basic differences determines the success of specific brand in these markets.
