BMW on the top spot, overthrows Mercedes Benz

BMW, the German luxury car brand redeemed its top position from its contemporary Mercedes-Benz in the number game. BMW, has topped the sales charts from January- November, 2010 by coming nearer to Mercedes -Benz in the domestic auto market. Last year, Mercedes- Benz sales accelerated by 79.31 per cent in the first half which helped it in gaining the top slot from BMW.
As per the latest sales figures from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), BMW has succeed in attaining its numero uno rank by selling 5,345 cars over 5,109 Mercedes-Benz sold from January-November, 2010.
BMW observed a handsome hike of 60.17 per cent in last 11 months of 2010, compared to the sales of 3,337 units same time in 2009. However, the rival auto company, Mercedes-Benz sold 2,915 units gliding by 75.27 per cent of sale last year at the same time.
As per the industry experts, Mercedes-Benz will not let it go so easily and will soon come with a surprise. The German premium auto manufacturer has won hearts of many Indians and will strive hard to again jump on the first spot. It is being predicted that the December month will be crucial in deciding the king of the year as it is being speculated that 15,000 or more luxury cars will be sold in 2010.
Looking at the sales data, in 2009, BMW sprang in the domestic auto market with a leap of 33.78 per cent by selling 3,619 units over 2,705 cars in 2008. If compared with its arch rival, Mercedes-Benz, the German brand in 2009, accounted a decline of 10.42 per cent by selling 3,247 units over 3,635 car in 2008.
When asked about the company's plan to achieve the top slot again, Wilfried Aulbur, Managing Director and CEO replied that, the company is not looking forward at the charts or the ranking but paying attention to the accelerating growth and developing closer relations with its buyers.
Audi is another competition which is firming swiftly in the Indian auto sector by recording an impressive growth of 70.40 per cent. It sold 2,803 cars in the last 11 months of 2010, over 1,645 cars same time in 2009.
sometime back in this year, BMW, increased its manufacturing capacity at the assembly unit in Chennai from 3,000 cars to 5,400 cars annually in its first shift. By 2012, the German auto company will invest Rs 70 crore which will further increase the capacity.
The manufacturing plant of Mercedes-Benz in Chakan, Maharashtra, has recently started another shift to double the production of its luxury car by 10,000 units annually. Other than this, the company will invest Rs 200 crore to establish a paint shop in the coming 18 months in the facility.
The competition is getting stiff and lets see who wins the battle of number one and will the consumers be benefited by the auto companies rivalry.
