BMW X1 to be launched In India by year end

BMW, a Germany based manufacturer of automobiles, motorcycles and engines, announced today that it will launch BMW X1 model in India by the end of year 2010. The BMW X1 model will be imported in India as a CKD (completely knocked-down Units) unit and will be assembled in the country at company's assembling facility at Chennai.
BMW X1 will be the cheapest model in BMW's India portfolio and will be loaded with a diesel engine with an engine capacity of 2.0 litre. The BMW X1 which has basic design of a SUV and it will be available with performance enhancing features like four-wheel drive and safety features like ABS (Antilock Braking System) along with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) and multiple airbags.
Company's Chennai plant which is currently used for the production of BMW 3-Series, BMW 5-series, will be used for assembling BMW X1. Launch of BMW X1 in India will add one more SUV to BMW's India portfolio which currently consists SUV models like BMW X3, BMW X5, and the BMW X6.
Besides the BMW X1 company has already launched a limited Addition BMW gran Turismo in the Bangalore, India with a price tag of Rs 63 lakh. The BMW Gran Turismo model has been launched to analyze the response of Indian buyers for the cars of this segment and as the company will establish its base in India, it will launch Gran Turismo in full edition.
