Bugatti, the maker's of world’s fastest street-legal production car is now working on Veyron’s successor that will feature a hybrid engine. It is expected to be launched as early as next year. The two door hybrid model will carry 16-cylinder engine developing a power of 1,500bhp. As of now, the production of this new car will probably be limited to 450 units.
Bugatti Veyron Super Sport is the world’s fastest car with a maximum speed of 431 kmph (268 mph). The car was recently challenged by Hennessey Venom GT which recorded a speed of 435.31 kmph (270.49 mph) but since the car ran in only one direction (with the wind) and only 11 cars were manufactured out of proposed 29, Hennessey Venom GT failed to qualify in the Guinness Book of World Records for the worlds fastest production car. According to sources, the new hybrid model will even out pace the 431kmph mark set by Bugatti's Veyron Super Sport.
The parent company Volkswagen has reportedly developed a blueprint for the 2015 Veyron model. In February, we even heard from Bugatti’s President Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber mentioning that there will be a second generation Veyron with more power, and after a while a camouflaged version was spied on the tracks of green hell- Nürburgring suggesting an early arrival. Now as the world turns towards an economical option of hybrid cars, its pretty obvious that Bugatti will soon bring its own new hybrid supercar.
"Moving to hybrid propulsion seems like a logical next step" for supercar-makers, said Stefan Bratzel, head of the Centre of Automotive Management near Cologne. "By curbing emissions and boosting performance, they can justify building more of these cars."
Most of the Bugatti’s rival such as LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder have already shifted to the hybrid motor and with Bugatti getting in the race, the competition will surely reach to a next level. The company has already retailed Veyron’s 430 of the 450 planned models and hopes to further sell the remaining 20 by the end of this year.
"The new model will not be less exciting than the Veyron," a spokeswoman for Bugatti said without being more specific. "Our customers have certain expectations."
