Ample car launches and extreme competition in the car industry is simply making it impossible to predict the success of a car. Unless the prices are quite competitive, any new car is unable to withstand the competition. This is exactly what making the car manufacturers like Nissan, Hyundai India, Maruti India and Ford Motors etc. offer lucrative discounts despite making a recent debut, not before than 7-8 months. While only the age old outdated cars were usually in the league of cars on discounts, where the car manufacturers ideally used to offer discounts to clear out the stock, the recent turn of events pose a different picture.

Extremely low sales due to the double whammy of high petrol prices and high lending rates have pushed the car sales to gallows registering 24% slip in sales especially in the month of October is spite of the festival season as compared to same period in 2010. Here’s the present picture in the car industry where the cars are being offered at mere throw away prices. Nissan Sunny, for example which was launched only in September that too at a very reasonable price tag of Rs 5.83 lakh for the petrol variant is now offered at a discount of Rs 52,000. The C segment car was in fact the least priced sedan in the segment today, but still is being offered with a huge discount from the Japanese car manufacturer. Hyundai EON which was thought to be an undeniable success when launched in October had to give in to the competition subsequently. Now, the small car is being offered with a Rs 20,000 discount. Maruti Alto Xplore which was again the answer for Hyundai’s Eon hatchback, is also announced with a discount of Rs 24,000.

So, basically the car manufacturers are moving the heaven and earth together to push their car model sales at any cost. Ford Fiesta sedan on the other hand has never been quite successful ever since its launch and if there is something which has to be blamed for its mediocre sales, it is definitely the Ford India for making the blunder of getting the Ford Fiesta price wrong. The auto major had tried all possible ways to give a boost to the sales, one by introducing new variants every now and then and the other through outrageous discounts. The latest version launched just in July, 2011, the all new Ford Fiesta is being offered at a discounted price of around Rs 7.61 lakh after straight Rs 75,000 cash discount. The premium sedan Renault Fluence with which the French car manufacturer has made its debut in India last year in May is also being offered at around Rs 12.50 lakh after a discount of Rs 45,000. Then Toyota Etios Liva Petrol hatchback, which was launched only in June,2011 is being offered with a discount Rs 40,000 on the Toyota Etios Liva price of Rs 3.99 lakh, which nothing but mouth-watering.
