The base-spec Hyundai Exter is priced at Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The Hyundai Exter entered the micro SUV space in July 2023, as the carmaker’s rival to the Tata Punch. Hyundai offers it in 5 broad variants – EX, S, SX, SX (O), and SX (O) Connect. While you must have already seen how the fully loaded Exter looks like, here’s what the base EX trim of the Exter has to offer.
Being the base variant, the Exter EX doesn't feature projector headlights with LED DRLs, instead getting a normal halogen headlight setup. However, the H-shaped pattern has been highlighted in the same housing, with the turn indicators located on the front fenders.
Also, it comes with a matte finished black grille, unlike the gloss-black grille on the higher variants. Hyundai has provided the SUV with a silver skid plate as standard.
It’s from the side profile that you notice the barebones nature of the Exter EX, thanks to smaller 14-inch steel wheels without wheel covers, and black ORVM housings and door handles. While it still has a rugged appearance thanks to the side cladding on the doors and around the wheel arches, the Exter EX misses out on roof rails.
At the back, the Exter EX gets H-shaped LED tail lamps connected by a black strip with Hyundai logo in the center and a silver skid plate. Unlike the higher variants, the entry-level trim of the micro SUV doesn’t feature rear defogger, rear wiper, or even a rear spoiler.
Inside the base-spec Exter, you won't find an infotainment system or a speaker setup. It does come with a semi-digital instrument cluster and steering-mounted controls for the instrument cluster. Also, this particular variant of the Exter only comes with front power windows, but do note that you get a height-adjustable driver’s seat.
Other amenities inside this Exter include manual AC and internally adjustable ORVMs.
Powertrain Check
The Hyundai Exter comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine option which makes 83PS and 114Nm. The unit is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The EX variant of the micro SUV is only available in manual transmission option.
The same engine is also employed with CNG models, but with the reduced output of 69PS and 95Nm, with the option of 5-speed manual transmission only.
Price Range & Rivals
Hyundai retails the Exter in the price range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10.10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It directly competes with the Tata Punch, while it can also be regarded as an alternative to the likes of Maruti Ignis, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Citroen C3, and Maruti Fronx.
