The American auto giant General Motors' Indian subsidiary has today said that it would increase the prices of all its cars by up to Rs 20,000, and the new prices will come in effect from October 8th so to control the impact of adverse currency movement and increasing input costs.

Justifying the decision taken by the GM, GM India's Vice President, P Balendran said, "Rupee depreciation in recent times has impacted us very badly. Besides, input costs and freight charges have also gone up. So, we have decided to pass on the burden partially to consumers, the increase will be around Rs 8,000 and will go up to Rs 20,000. It will be with effect from October 8,"

Recently we have seen other car makers like Maruti Suzuki, Honda Cars India, Renault, Audi and Toyota as well hiked the prices of their cars due to the same reason. While MSI increased prices of its entire range by up to Rs 5,250, Honda Cars India raised the prices of its three models; Brio, Jazz and City by up to 2.6 per cent. Renault India had also announced a hike of up to Rs 40,000 on its newly launched compact SUV, the Duster a couple of days back. Whereas amongst the luxury car makers, Audi India had increased the prices of its compact crossover, Q3 by up to Rs 50,000 this month only. However, Tata Motors has been an exception here, it cut down the prices of Indica eV2 by Rs 23,000 with the introduction of a new version.
