General Motors India has pushed on the gas pedal at the right time by getting ready for an interesting mid-life uplift to the Chevrolet Cruze sedan which includes major changes in the drivetrain. The whole tweaking of the engine has been done in order to make the car capable of delivering better fuel efficiency, drivability and refinement, well the current Cruze is also a very powerful sedan. The upgraded version of the Cruze is expected to hit the showrooms later this month. The new stonker engine incorporated in the car is capable of pumping out a peak power of 164bhp and a peak torque of 38.7kgm and is coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox instead of 5 speed gearbox.
The power tweak is possible by getting the cylinder head redesigned and now uses a DOHC valve that is driven by a chain instead of rubber belt and the common rail system has also been upgraded which now runs at 1800 bar instead of 1600 bar with seven injections instead of five injections per stroke. In the previous model, the air intake was placed away from the inlet manifold but in the newest version of Chevrolet Cruze it has been placed closer so that the air intake and turbo lag gets improved; a dual-mass flywheel has also been incorporated which is expected to cut down on the vibrations produced by the engine.
The new Cruze sedan also supports the six-speed automatic transmission and manual transmission which aids in linear, smooth and effortless acceleration. Last but not the least, the fuel economy of the manual Cruze stands at 10.8kmpl and 15.7kmpl for city and highway respectively; the figures stand at 9.8kmpl and 15.3kmpl respectively for the automatic Chevrolet Cruze. Watch this space for all the latest news and info on the upgraded Cruze soon.
