Celebrating the festive season, General Motors India has launched the facelift versions of its Sail hatchback and sedan. The pricing set for the Sail hatchback is between Rs 4.41 lakh and Rs 6.81 lakh bracket pitting it right in the middle of the hatchback battle. The Sail sedan will fight in the midst of the even more competitive compact sedan bracket with pricing between Rs 5.19 lakh and Rs 7.64 lakh. Exteriors: Features and dimensions
The front gets a dual-port grille with the golden bowtie prominent at the centre. The fog lamps now gets chrome garnish adding a touch of elegance to the front. New Sail gets sportier styling with further tweaks to Chevrolet’s dynamic sculptural design philosophy by wide angled jewel effect tail lamps and wrap around head lamps. The SAIL is available in six exterior colours: Velvet Red (Sedan only), Super Red (Hatchback only), Switchblade Silver, Summit White, Caviar Black, Linen Beige and Sandrift Grey.
Interiors: Features
The most change can be observed in the interior of the new Sail. New dual cockpit design features black beige interior colour and seats get new leatherette upholstery. The backlight illumination has been changed to new icy blue illumination and the cabin gets highlights in silver and chrome. The single DIN music system has been replaced by a new 2 – DIN music system that supports Bluetooth functionality. Occupants may connect up to five phones and music streaming. New chrome surrounds for the AC vent bezel and HVAC control knobs along with silver surrounds for door handles and the gear shifter lend a classy appeal to the interior. Chevrolet’s signature golden bowtie on the new black steering wheel lends a sporty touch.
Safety
At the safety front, the Sail has a high-strength safety cage body construction that can disperse 80 percent of the force in front impact. The Sail comes equipped with an engine immobilizer, central door locking, speed-sensitive automatic door locks and remote keyless entry enhancing active safety. Other safety measures include dual air bags, the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake force distribution (EBD).
Engine: Power and torque
Engine options for the new Sail hatchback and sedan are a 1.3 litre SDE SMARTECH turbocharged diesel engine and a locally developed 1.2 litre SMARTECH petrol engine. The diesel engine produces 74bhp of maximum power at 4,000rpm and peak torque generated is 190Nm from 1,750rpm. The claimed fuel efficiency for the diesel engine is 22.1kmpl. Petrol engine puts out 82bhp of maximum power at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 108.5Nm at 5,000rpm. The petrol engine claims a fuel efficiency figure of 18.2kmpl.
