Wherever there is an Apple, there is always a Xiaomi breathing down its neck. In a recent development, Elon Musk’s Tesla, which has been making strides in the development of alternate mobility solutions on the other side of the lake, is in for a tough fight from the Chinese tech company LeEco on this side of the world. The oriental tech company, which is the financial backer of Faraday Future, recently unveiled its new electric car concept LeSEE.
During the event, CEO Jia Yueting staged a live demo of its self-driving and self-parking capability using voice commands via a mobile app, albeit moving in low speed due to the limited space. There was no mention of the specs of the car, but reports suggest that the vehicle could possibly attain top speeds of more than 200 kmph.
Designed to be used as a fleet vehicle, the car comes with a host of features, including multiple screens that enhance its usability to cater to different modern-day demands. While the front smart screen displays specific data for the driver, the touchscreens on the rear offer multiple infotainment features, such as letting each passenger control their own music.
“We are not simply building an electric vehicle that is smart, but we are building a new mobility for the future,” the co-founder and global vice chairman of LeEco's car business, Ding Lei, said during the event, and added, “What we are building is a fully integrated experience.”
Besides its already functional electric car ventures in America, LeEco also has plans to enter the mainstream automotive industry. It had announced in February that it was working with Aston Martin on its first electric car – named the RapidE – that is expected to go into production by 2018. Though no specific timeline has been set for the launch of the LeSEE, the electric car is set to make its official debut at the Beijing Auto Show on April 24.
