Demise of Dr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal Anguishes SIAM

Dr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal, Founder and Chairman of the biggest two-wheeler manufacturer of India, Hero Group, has passed away at the age of 92. Death came at a time when he was reportedly ailing from a short illness. Dr. Munjal held numerous positions in his illustrious career including the post of President and Treasurer at AIAM/SIAM. The death of this automobile mogul invoked reactions from various organisations like SIAM, to name one.

SIAM President, Mr. Vinod Dasari, expressed his deep sadness over the demise and said that his passing away comes as a huge loss to the entire automotive family. Dr. Brijmohan Lall was one of the trailblazer for the Indian automotive industry and is hugely credited for the reputation the Indian two-wheeler industry enjoys globally today. Dr. Brijmohan Lall was a patriarch to the automotive industry and an excellent leader, who paved a way for the entire industry on how to build a winning company.

While Dr. Lall has probably been the single biggest reason behind Hero MotoCorp being the world’s largest two-wheeler company for 14th year in a row, his contribution to the industry is much more than what numbers would suggest. SIAM would also remember and cherish his contribution to the development of consensus building amongst the companies and creating the unified automotive industry in India. He was a visionary and has played an unprecedented role in cementing India’s place on the global automotive scenario, Mr. Dasari added. Earlier this year, Dr. Brijmohan Lall was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Honour at the Annual General meeting of SIAM. He was also honoured with the prestigious 'Padma Bhushan' in 2005 for his contribution in the field of trade and industry.
