A few days back we got the news of diesel engine cars to become a little more expensive but putting an end to all the speculations and debates, the diesel engine car will not get expensive after the after budget as decided by the Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee. The news will come as a relief for the car manufacturers and car buyers as the expecte jump of Rs 1 Lakh in diesel car engines would upset both.
Diesel is a fuel which is subsidized heavily by the government an thus cost lesser than the petrol. The major reason behind the low prices is that the government wants to support the agricultural vehicles and commercial transport which mainly run on diesel. But at the same time when this subsidy is enjoyed by the private vehicle owners and SUV’s which consume excessively high fuel. Thus many have raised their voice on the enforcement of levy on diesel engined vehicles.
Today the finance minister made a real interesting statement during the budget speech when he was talking about the staggered hike in the prices of diesel which he said is good for the Indian customers as they don’t have to face the brutal sudden hike in the prices of diesel. So one can say that the price of diesel as fuel will increase in coming few years especially for the car buyers and at a concerning note it may even reach beyond the petrol prices.
But the diesel engines open up a great area to experiment as the car maker can innovate more frugal diesel engines which gives better mileage than the petrol variants. The diesel car can be made more powerful and torquier without affecting the fuel efficiency. And those planning to buy a diesel car should really go for it if your monthly driving crosses 1000 Km mark.
