Honda Motors seem to be keen on introducing more diesel driven cars and the compact cars in India. What other than Tokyo Motor could be the right platform to let their intentions well known. Yasuhisa Arai, the Managing officer of their Automobile R&D department passed on the information during the prestigious event. While the whole country is hullabaloo over the diesel cars, Honda india seemed to be unruffled so far. However, the auto major is now brought to its senses probably after observing the market dynamics changing so rapidly. As much as 22% growth in the diesel cars is observed despite the overall slowdown in the cars was marked at 1.5% in the past seven months.

Right from the latest entrant Honda Brio to their flagship model Honda City and the Honda CR-V SUV, Honda’s stable is literally fraught with petrol cars. There might be a good news for Honda fans in store. The Honda CR-V and Honda Civic might carry a diesel engine under its hood to have their diesel engine plans on track. On the other hand, the small car line-up is the point where the auto major lags behind. Honda Brio is only the second car from the Japanese car manufacturer in the hatchback segment.

From what we see, Honda Motors has huge plans in store for Indian car market. The car manufacturer finds India to be the foremost on their list of plans among China, Japan and the domestic car market. However, the floods in Thailand has been a major reason for concern to curb their growth plans in India. Finding this as the right opportunity, Honda Motors intends to increase their localisation at their Indian assembly units. Honda India is facing massive losses partly due to the floods in Thailand unit and rest is caused by the dipping rupee exchange value.
