ABS still comes as standard on all but the base ‘Ambiente’ variant
Ford now offers the EcoSport compact SUV with dual airbags as standard. The passive safety feature was earlier offered on the ‘Trend’ variant and above, but dealers say this update was implemented around a month ago. ABS with EBD, however, will still be offered with all but the base variant. With this, except for the Figo, every car in Ford India’s range gets dual airbags as standard. The Figo itself gets two front airbags on all but the base grade.
The EcoSport still has the bragging rights of offering one of the most comprehensive safety packages in the segment. While the Titanium+ and Titanium AT grades get a total of six airbags, the latter also gets emergency brake assist (EBA), electronic stability control (ESC), traction control and hill-launch assist (HLA).
Ford India’s best-seller was updated in October last year with auto headlamps, daytime running LEDs, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror and an engine start/stop button being added to the feature list.
Mechanically, the EcoSport is available with three engine options – a 1.5-litre TDCi diesel (100PS/205Nm), a 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol (112PS/140Nm) and a 1.0-litre Ecoboost petrol (125PS/170Nm). While the 1.5-litre petrol can be had with both manual and automatic gearboxes, the other engines can only be paired with manual transmissions.
Currently, prices for the EcoSport start at Rs 6.93 lakh and go up to Rs 9.82 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
