Ford EcoSport Price to be Around Rs 6 Lakh

The American car maker Ford is planning to launch its much awaited compact SUV EcoSport in India at a very aggressive pricing, in fact lesser than that of the Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai i20 and its closest competitor Renault Duster, according to a report published in ET.

In an earlier report, CarDekho informed its readers that the EcoSport will be priced very aggressive (lesser than Duster), now the ET claims its introductory price to be around Rs 5.9-6 lakh, making it around Rs 1.5 lakh cheaper than the Renault Duster's entry level version. What is more interesting to know is that the top-of-the-line variant of the EcoSport too has been claimed to be priced around Rs 9 lakh as against the Duster's Rs 11 lakh.

And if Ford manages to bring the vehicle at the above mentioned price range, the vehicle is not only going to be a tough competitor for the Duster and Quanto, it will also emerge as a very close competitor for the premium hatchbacks and entry level sedans. And seeing the upward trend in the sales of SUVs due to people's growing interest in buying vehicles that comfortably accommodate five adults and offers them big luggage area, we will see the kind of battle we have never seen in the Indian car market. It will be more of a price war than a intra-segment war.

What will help the EcoSport to be priced so aggressive is the fact that more than 80% content used to build the EcoSport is local, as it shares most its parts with the company's flagship sedan the Fiesta. The other reason why it would be priced so less is its sub- 4 metre length, helping it to get the excise duty benefits, it will only have to pay the 12% excise as against the 24% for the above 4-metre length cars.
