Not so impressive sales numbers of all new Ford Fiesta has always been in discussion ever since it was launched, and we have always believed that it's the pricing and the cost of maintenance that Ford should work on, which can only happen if the percentage of local content is increased. Entry level sedans like Nissan Sunny, Skoda Rapid and some other cars, which are priced lower and are in fact new to the Indian market are doing comparatively better than the 'Fiesta', which has been a popular name in the sub-continent for years.
So to come out better, Ford has decided to share most of the parts between the Fiesta and Ford EcoSport, since both are built on the same platform. And like we all know that the Ford EcoSport will have 85 per cent local content, which will not only help it be more cost effective and the maintenance cost of the vehicle will simultaneously go down. So as in the case of new Fiesta, which having the majority of local parts will cost lesser to the company and to the buyers.
We are expecting it to happen once the much awaited Ford EcoSport compact SUV launches in the country, which is scheduled to make its Indian debut in February 2013. Can Ford regain its position with the competitive pricing and lower servicing cost? will be an interesting watch.
