Ford India has entertained the possibility of launching a crossover version of their Figo hatchback. Cross hatches are really hot in the market right now and certifying this fact are the impressive sales figures presented by models like Fiat Avventura, i20 active and others. Ford currently doesn’t have a contender in this popular segment as of yet and the Indian market conditions right now present the ideal opportunity to capitalise on this idea. Commenting on the possibility, Nigel Harris, MD and president, Ford India told IndianAutosBlog “It depends on how well we execute it. We are looking at it. Indian consumers like the mainstream (products), so they like an Aspire or Figo, but they also like the new (segments). Yeah, the cross (Figo crossover) is an interesting concept.”
The stock Figo will provide ideal foundations for a crossover variant. The car features a 1.5-liter, 100PS diesel mill, which packs-in plenty of grunt to get the hatchback going and as far as the crossover variant is concerned, a 100PS variant will end-up being the most powerful offering in the segment. Speaking of the powerplant, the same 1.5-liter mill is also incorporated in the Ford EcoSport, which is the company's flagship compact SUV. In addition to the Figo hatchback, and EcoSport, Ford India’s lineup also includes Figo Aspire compact sedan, Endeavour SUV and Fiesta Sedan.
