Ford India seems to be against the government’s proposal to levy tax on diesel cars. The company feels that enlisting cess on diesel cars is not the correct approach, instead the diesel prices could be increased a bit in order to earn more revenue. Recently, the managing director and president of Ford India, Mr. Michael Boneham stated that the firm is hoping to see a reliable legislative framework and levying tax on diesel vehicles is certainly not the right way when the interest rates are soaring high. Taxing on diesel vehicle is undoubtedly a regressive step. He also mentioned that the government is considering levying cess on diesel powered cars that would amplify the vehicle price by a whopping Rs. 80,000.

He said that inspite of levying tax on diesel cars, government can hike diesel prices by merely 75 paisa per litre that would help the government to earn similar amount of revenue. Mr. Boneham is expecting that the auto market would see more growth in 2012 and interest rates will tumble down a bit. Ford India recently opened up around 45 dealerships across thirty five cities in the country, which is certainly a big step forward. With these new dealerships, Ford India has panned out in more than 120 cities in India. Right now, Ford India is investing a whopping $72 million to expand the capacity of production from 250000 units to a massive 340000 units every year.
