Gates open for general public in ARAI Pune Facility

Every car sold in Indian auto-sector first needs to be approved by ARAI. This eco-friendly body in order to make the general public aware about its working, has opened the gates for general public on the 24 May and thereafter, every third Saturday of every month. Any Indian citizen above 25 years of age can visit the facility after submitting a simple form. For those not aware of ARAI, its the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) which is a government body that comes under the Ministry of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprise and is responsible for the analyzing fuel economy and safety aspect of every car.

The facility of ARAI is equipped with the state of art infrastructure and highly qualified staff which provide technical expertise in certification, testing, R&D and homologation. Established in 1966, this Govt. body also conducts quality control tests on automobiles and on the allied industries as per the norms detailed in the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR). Spread over an area of 105 hectares (260 acres), the facility houses various laboratories and a vast testing area of over 8343 meter square. This environment friendly institute has been awarded with ISO, OHSAS and NABL accreditations. ARAI also trains students from various universities for their Undergraduate and Post Graduate Courses. In country, ARAI is the only automotive engineering R&D institute which is been awarded with ISO 9001 Quality System Certification.

Starting from 24 May, this research institute has opened its gates for mango people to witness the live working of facility. However, this Govt. body will allow a maximum of 100 visitors in two batches of 50 visitors each for a maximum duration of 2 hours in the morning and evening. ARAI facility in Pune is located at the Vetal Hill, Off Paud Road, Kothrud, Pune, Maharashtra, India. The facility is situated at a minimum distance of 25 km from Pune Airport and 12 km from the Pune Railway Station. Interested Indian citizens above age 25 years are allowed to visit after filling a form which can be downloaded from the ARAI website.

ARAI works hard to meet the developments required in auto industry. With the vast network of several facilities, ARAI completed many notable projects. Over the last four decades, the ARAI has done a great deal of critical work such as Engine Design/Simulation Software Installation, development of bi-fuel CNG kits, advancement of techniques and software up-gradation in Noise, Vibration, Harshness Analysis along with the Vehicle Crash Analysis and VDACS software for chassis dynamometer control. While the latest development includes, Particulate Measurement System and most modern Digitally Controlled Load Simulation.
