Riding high on the success of the popular Chevrolet brand, General Motors India has registered an impressive growth of 120% in sales in April 2010, compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 10601 units in April 2010 as against 4823 units in April 2009.

The April sales comprise of 3852 units of Chevrolet Beat, 3507 units of Chevrolet Spark, 1529 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 692 units of Chevrolet Cruze, 529 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, 315 units of Chevrolet Aveo, 115 units of Chevrolet Captiva and 62 units of Chevrolet Optra. With the introduction of the second shift at both plants, the company expects to reduce the waiting period for Beat, Cruze and Spark soonest.

The growth was primarily driven by the overwhelming response to the much sought after Chevrolet Beat, Cruze and Spark. The Chevrolet Beat and Cruze have become the industry benchmarks in its segments and a winner among consumers in India, with its best-in-class design, performance and other product attributes. The Chevrolet Spark as expected continues to record impressive growth in sales and recently the company has rolled-out the 100,000th Chevrolet Spark.

This clearly validates that Chevy Spark is the most sought after mini car in its segment in terms of styling, performance, fuel efficiency, value for money proposition and other product attributes. Other car lines have also registered impressive growth during the month although the overall industry growth has now slightly slowed down compared to the first quarter of this year.

It may be recalled that the company has ramped up production by adding the second shifts at Halol and Talegaon plants recently to meet the increased demand of its products. The company is also rapidly expanding its sales and service network to support the increasing market demand of its cars. It intends to take the network to 300 sales points and an equal number of authorized service outlets by the end of this year from the current 206 sales points and 200 authorized service outlets across the country.
