Both Mahindra EVs have not only brought in features previously available with only luxury offerings but also come with two large battery pack options that can cover more distance than any rival
Mahindra has made waves in the mass-market EV sectors by launching the BE 6 SUV and the XEV 9e SUV-coupe. Not only do these EVs come with two segment-best 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery pack options, but they also come loaded with a lot of features, many of which come from the luxury offerings, all of which have democratised premium technology. This, coupled with the fact that the BE 6 and XEV 9e start from just Rs 18.90 lakh and Rs 21.90 lakh, respectively, make the two EVs an absolute bang for the buck.
While the two EVs are feature-loaded to the gills, here are all the new features that they have introduced for any mass-market EV:
Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e: Segment First Features
Both new Mahindra electric origin SUVs come with features that are not just missing on similarly-priced EVs or ICE (internal combustion engine) offerings, but are found on cars that cost more than Rs 60 lakh. Here’s the entire list of features:
Up to three 12.3-inch digital displays
While it is common for the newer generation of mass-market cars to feature a dual-screen setup, the Mahindra XEV 9e goes a step further by introducing three 12.3-inch displays enclosed in a panoramic glass panel. These screens are powered by powerful Snapdragon chipsets, which claim to provide a smooth and lag-free experience.
In-car camera
Both the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e feature an in-car camera, which monitors the driver and occupant’s behaviour and alerts the driver in case they feel drowsy while driving. Not only this but the in-car-camera can be used to even click selfies and even attend online video conferences through it, even on the go. How cool is that!
AR-based heads-up display
An augmented-reality-based heads-up display has also been added to both cars’ suites making it easier for the driver to keep track of not only the EV’s speed, the currently playing music track and ADAS functions, but also turn-by-turn navigation.
16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system
A 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system has also been provided with both EVs, which was unheard of in any other car, be it an EV or an ICE offering. This gives a premium auditory experience which was previously only restricted to luxury cars.
Auto park assist
Mahindra has equipped both EVs with an Auto Park Assist feature, an amenity mostly found on high-end luxury offerings. The feature parks the car automatically in tight spaces without any considerable driver intervention. That said, you can even step down from the EV, choose a desirable spot, and see the car park on its own if the need arises.
Dual wireless phone chargers
Wireless phone chargers make the cabin look less cluttered and the Mahindra BE 6 provides two wireless phone chargers that can be used separately by both passengers.
Boost Mode
In our detailed reviews of the BE 6 and XEV 9e, we found out that the performance of the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) electric motor is more than enough for both EVs. However, if you want an even quicker overtake, or a more aggressive flyby, there is a boost mode button on the steering wheel which you can press to generate an additional boost for 10 seconds.
That said, let us check out the battery and electric motor specifications of both EVs to see what they come packed with.

However, if you feel the need to stretch your budget to experience the niceties of the fully loaded Pack Three variants but are in two minds, Mahindra has gotten you covered here too. We say this as the carmaker has introduced a unique ‘Three For Me’ programme, which will allow you to pay the same EMI amount for the Pack Three variant as the Pack One trim, with a final balloon payment (difference amount) to be paid at the end of 6 years. Easy ownership, right?
