We compare the latest Honda Civic for India with its Czech rival that has evolved significantly in the time the former was on a hiatus from India
Update: The Honda Civic prices start at Rs 17.7 lakh to Rs 22.3 lakh across India. The petrol CVT is available in V, VX and ZX variants and the diesel manual is available only in the VX and ZX variants. Full details are here.
Set to be launched on 7 March 2019, the new tenth-gen (facelift) Civic is making a comeback six years after the eighth-gen model was discontinued in 2013. In those six years, the competition in the segment has grown fiercer with the introduction of latest models of the Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra and the Toyota Corolla Altis. In fact, the Skoda Octavia has evolved significantly and makes a really strong case for itself. Here's a detailed comparison of the two midsize sedans in pictures to see how the two fare against each other, be it in terms of looks, features or engine options.
Exterior:
Front:
|
|
Width: 1799mm |
Width: 1814mm |
From the front, both the cars belong to two extreme ends of the spectrum. Where the Civic looks agressive but conventional, the Octavia is understated, yet quirky. The Civic features sleek headlamps flanking the signature bull-horn grille, which makes it look wider than the Octavia that gets split headlamps; numbers however suggest otherwise. |
Side:
|
|
Length: 4656mm |
Length: 4670mm |
Wheelbase: 2700mm |
Wheelbase: 2688mm |
The Civic carries forward its sporty styling and features a coupe-like profile with a sloping roof line. The Octavia, in comparison, looks more like a conventional three-box sedan. |

The Octavia’s rear is simple yet elegant - quintessentially Skoda in the way it is designed. The Civic’s rear end on the other hand has sporty written all over it. The heavily raked rear windshield and those boomerang tail lamps make the Civic look like an everyday sports car. |
Boot Space:
|
|
Boot Space: 430 litres |
Boot Space: 590 litres |
The Octavia packs a significantly larger boot (160 litres more) than the Civic and its notchback-type boot lid further makes it more practical than a traditional sedan boot. The Civic’s boot opens like that of any conventional sedan’s. |

|
The Civic will be available with two tyre size: lower variants will get 215/55R16, while higher variants will get 215/50/R17. |
