One’s a SUV while the other is a sedan. But, let’s explore their differences in detail
The Honda Elevate recently went on sale as the carmaker’s second stint in the compact SUV space, after the BR-V. This new global SUV has much in common with the Honda City sedan. Both are priced in the budget of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, primarily based on the same platform, get the same petrol engine and have similar features to offer.
For those buyers unable to pick between the Honda sedan and its SUV-derivative, here’s a quick comparison between the two for their key differences besides the looks:

The introductory prices of the Elevate undercut the City for the time being. The starting price is lower by Rs 71,000, but as you climb the variants, the difference decreases. The top-end variants carry a price gap of just Rs 4,000 to Rs 19,000. Both are offered in four variants, but only the City gets the option of a hybrid powertrain.

The City and Elevate share the same 1.5-litre petrol engine, delivering the same performance figures. However, the sedan offers a slightly better fuel economy because it’s slightly lighter in weight, and likely more aerodynamically efficient compared to the chunky SUV.
However, the sedan counterpart can be opted with a strong-hybrid petrol engine, which claims an efficiency of up to 27.13kmpl.

The City is obviously the longer of the two, thanks to the three box layout. However, the Elevate is wider, which could translate into three people being slightly more comfortable at the back. The SUV nature makes the Elevate a taller car better for headroom, but the City has its own sweet charm with the typical low-slung sedan stance.
The boot space of the City is slightly more than the Elevate, on paper. However, since the SUV has an upright boot, it might be able to occupy the same number of suitcases.
With a 54mm more ground clearance, the Elevate makes up for being a practical choice based on the craters and unevenly shaped speed breakers on our Indian roads.
Practicality Check
The Honda City is known for its in-cabin practicality, which is also seen on the Elevate. You get cupholders in the centre console, storage in the front armrest, phone storage space below the AC console, a small storage box behind the gear lever, and bottle holders in each door. You also get special phone-pockets in the back of the front seats.
Features
Both the Hondas are similarly well equipped but there are still minor differences. Here are as follows:

The cabin of the Honda Elevate gains an advantage over the City with its larger touchscreen infotainment system.

Up to six airbags ADAS Tyre pressure monitoring system ISOFIX child seat mounts Hill start assist Electronic stability control Rear parking camera Lane watch camera Rain-sensing wipers Automatic headlamps |

Four airbags (standard) |
The Elevate gets dual front airbags as standard, while the City features four airbags as standard. Other than this, both get the same safety features, including the Honda Sense suite of advanced driver assistance systems. The City has scored a five-star safety rating in the ASEAN NCAP. Going by the Elevate’s internal crash testing, we’re expecting the SUV to score a strong 4- or 5-star safety rating.
Which Honda To Pick?
With so many similarities in terms of the value offered by the Honda Elevate and Honda City, it really does come down to a buyer’s personal preference: the tall-seating and higher ground clearance of an SUV or the classic low-slung seating and handling of a sedan. Let us know which would you pick in the comments below.
